Salud wants tighter security at MOA Arena after robbery at Meralco locker room
Four members of the Meralco Bolts coaching staff fell prey to thieves who broke into the team’s locker room during first half of their game against the GlobalPort Batang Pier Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Because of the unfortunate incident, PBA commissioner Chito Salud immediately called the attention of venue management to tighten up security.
“It is indeed unfortunate. They just have to tighten up their security measures and improve their response procedure. I am confident the MOA Arena management can immediately rectify their shortcomings, ensure the safety of the teams and the fans and indemnify in full the victims of today’s theft and robbery,” said Salud.
Among the victims were coach Ryan Gregorio and assistants Ronnie Magsanoc, Xavy Nunag and Mon Macatangay. Cash and personal items were stolen from them, including laptops, cellphones, video cameras and other belongings.
Mon Segismundo, the current vice-chairman of the PBA and the team’s representative to the board, said he doesn’t want to jump into conclusion while there’s an ongoing investigation.
“I think they’re reviewing the CCTV,” said Segismundo in a telephone interview. “Let’s just wait for the review. I don’t want to jump into conclusion at this time.”
